We’ve taken notice: Scarabs have been popping up everywhere in the fashion world, but particularly in the realm of jewelry and accessories–and like Cleopatra herself, we’ve decidedly hopped on-board with the idea of being adorned in six-legged dung beetles, of all things. Our first bit of inspiration came from the refined and luxurious zoomorphic jewelry crafted by Greek designer Lito Karakostanoglou. Karakostanoglou preserves real scarab carcasses found in Madagascar and then develops gorgeous casings to house them in made of gold, silver and precious jewels.
The scarab trend has also been of strong influence in many designers’ color palettes this season–think Angelina Jolie and Mila Kunis at the Golden Globe Awards.
