IT’S A WRAP: OUR 2011 HOLIDAY WISH LIST RUNDOWN

NINO BRAND’S FALL 2011 COLLECTION DESIGNED BY BELA SHEHU

Our wildest fashion fantasies have been realized through the everyday wearable, modern day separates presented in designer Bela Shehu‘s fall 2011 collection for NINO Brand, a hauntingly beautiful and well-thought-out selection of elegant floor-length dresses, exaggerated hemline cloaks and simple, smart separates any woman would be ecstatic to call her very own. This collection keeps consistent with those presented in seasons past in that it possesses the superb craftsmanship and finite attention to detail we have now come to expect from Shehu.

This visual interpretation of the fall 2011 NINO Brand collection is presented by Jason Blake with an accompanying fashion film by Eric Ashleigh. Makeup and hair design are by Kat Sterrett and the girl who got to wear it all, is none other than VG’s own Sarah Muhl. It’s a hell of a visual journey—we hope you enjoy it.

‘PASSER DES NUITS BLANCHES,’ A VERY GLOSSY MIXTAPE BY LES PROFESSIONNELS

It’s Friday, it’s been a helluva long week, and we have a hunch you’re gonna need a little something special to set all those Monday through Thursday wrongs, right. (We know we do.)

Luckily, our good friends at Les Professionnels have heard your troubles and have every intention of melting them all away, with this: Passer des Nuits Blanches, a sweet get-up-and-move mixtape dedicated to all the pretty girls with great taste in music and in fashion blogs too! Enticed? Wonderful. But first, a little background on the talented folks who made this proud music moment possible–and just in time for the weekend…

Les Professionnels is an artist, production and DJ group homegrown straight out of Philly. Comprised of three individuals, the group blends elements from a myriad of influences and genres (including pop, electronic, hip-hop and reggae), to form an eclectic, energetic soundscape that is uniquely their own. Simply put, you’ll soon hear for yourself that their self-invented tongue-in-cheek genre, ‘Awesome Step,’ readily lives up to its name.

Les Prof’s latest oeuvre includes a remix of Chromeo‘s Hot Mess featuring Grammy Award winning rapper, Dice Raw of The Legendary Roots Crew (bonus Philly points), and a remix of Shwayze and Cisco Adler‘s Drunk Off Your Love (available on the Drunk of Your Love Single EP on iTunes), while their in the works production has them collaborating with a gamut of artists located throughout Europe, Africa and across the North American continent. Les Prof’s forthcoming releases are set to include EPs of their own production, remixes from their wide-ranging network of allies, and Les Prof remixes of a laudable selection of emerging artists.

Looking to get your fix locally? Les Prof has performed weekly as the house DJs for Dice Raw’s Jam House and also hold down a monthly residency at Silk City with their party Lip Service. Stay tuned because both parties will be announcing dates for future events at the end of this month, but until then, you can catch Les Prof at their monthly party at Arrow Bar on Avenue A in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

For a glimpse into the collective hive mind, take a peek at their Tumblr at lesprof.tumblr.com; shout at them on Twitter @les_prof; and ‘like’ them on Facebook facebook.com/lesprofessionnels. Most importantly, direct your ears to their SoundCloud which contains a veritable treasure-trove of free downloads of their original production and streaming audio of standout remix work at soundcloud.com/les_prof.

Without further ado, we bring you the awesome:

DALMATIAN PRINTS & OXBLOOD REDS: 20 REASONS TO SAY YES

We’re not sure if you’ve noticed, but there’s been a ton of fashion-y internet talk focused around this fall’s polarizing Dalmatian print trend, first made popular by the runways of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Topshop Unique; and we, for the life of us, can’t figure out what all the fuss is about! Through the fashion ages, leopard has easily established itself as a perennially pleasing print, even despite its high-risk-for-tacky factor. So we ask, what’s the difference here? As with any print motif, the important thing to keep in mind when incorporating ‘busy’ pieces like these into your everyday ensembles is to exercise a bit of restraint. If it’s the dreaded Cruella factor that’s got you in a tizzy, our word of advice is to rid that poisonous thought from your head immediately. You can minimize your risk but still show your adventurous side by donning these pieces as accents, sparingly. In fact, we may even be leaning in favor of a little fresh doggy style over the standard leopard for this fall, ourselves… Luckily for us, and for you, the trickle-down from runway to retail has already commenced; we hope you’re poised and ready for it!

If there’s one shade of red that literally anyone can pull off, regardless of skin tone, occasion or personal hang-up, we’d have to say it’s oxblood. While bright, vivacious reds will always hold a very dear place in our hearts (and closets too!), we think it’s safe to say they’re not always fitting for daytime wear. By contrast, a deep, rich oxblood can be worn during any time of the day, never appears out of place, forgoes the need to beg for attention, and complements a wider range of complexions than its flashier counterpart. Something tells us we’re not alone in our admiration of oxblood either, as recently we’ve come across an endless barrage of gorgeous oxblood articles in almost every form fathomable. Of those, we’ve selected a few winners here that are sure to be crowd hits–among friends and foes alike.

VG EXCLUSIVE: BEHIND-THE-SCENES COVERAGE AT ERDEM S/S 2012 RTW

Erdem Moralioglu brought forth many a luxuriously wearable delight during his Spring/Summer 2012 presentation at the Savoy Hotel in London last week. Well-known for his acute ESP of what ‘real’ (stylish) women want to wear, Moralioglu’s expertly honed tailoring skills and topographic familiarity of the female form shined through brilliantly in this well-articulated collection of precious floor-grazing gowns, prim wiggle dresses and crisp, slim-tailored separates. Printed and embroidered cornflowers, primroses, delphiniums and marigolds invited onlookers to take a whiff of the fresh, spring air that seemingly permeated the hotel’s Wedgwood ballroom, as they danced serenely down the runway to each model’s stride. Sheer lace panels, knife pleats and boyish dress shirts made another triumphant return in this collection, this time, painted in muted blue and yellow hues–it could have been boring–but to us it was anything but. After all, you can’t argue with perfection like this; it would be a waste of everyone’s time.
