Most of us think that in order to have beautiful and younger looking skin, we need to spend a fortune on countless brand name moisturizers, tonics and eye treatments. Well, that’s what I used to think… until the day I was introduced to Greenridge Organics by a friend of mine from yoga class.

I had been complaining about my recent discovery of harsh chemicals contained in beauty products, and how some of these chemicals are linked to diseases–cancer being among them. She then proceeded to tell me about a small organic company based in Florida called Greenridge Organics, and the rest was history. I went directly home and placed my first order on the spot. This was two years ago and since then, I haven’t dared to put anything else on my face. Each product is handmade with organic ingredients and comes in a glass jar. The best part is, when reading off the ingredients listed in each product, you’ll easily identify a wide array of oils, herbs and flowers with no unexpected surprises.

As of now, I have tried almost every product from the brand’s online store, and if I had to recommend just one product from Greenridge, it’d have to be the Calendula Primrose Face Cream. It’s a winner. It’s a pink moisturizer that contains glorious ingredients like primrose, red rasberry, calendula, pumpkin seed, helichrysum and high level of Vitamin E. As most of you well know, Vitamin E is known for its skin repairing qualities, so if you have damaged skin, you’ve met your perfect match with this product. I use the Primrose Face Cream the most during dry seasons since it’s very oily; in the summer, this product is a bit too strong for me. That said, when the spring/summer season hits, I usually use the Chamomile Rose Face Cream as my ultimate go-to, which is a bit less oily and beneficial for all skin types. As for eye treatments, I swear by the Carrot Seed Eye Renewal Treatment and highly recommend this stuff to treat wrinkles and dark circles around the eyes.

Another amazing thing about Greenridge Organics is that you can actually create your own face cream. My mother used to tell me that, back in the day, she could go to any drug store and ask the pharmacist to concoct a custom-made moisturizer. Since every skintype is different, the buyer could simply request the ingredients she would like included in her custom face cream. I was amazed with this idea, and recently discovered that Greenridge added this option. You can go to the official website, choose your skintype, booster, plant hydrosol, emulsifier (certified organic beeswax or vegetable emulsifying wax), essential oils, and then you can even choose the name of your creation. I haven’t tried it yet since it’s the fall/winter season and I am in love with my oily Primrose Face Cream at the moment, but if you would like to create your very own face cream, click here. Or, if you’re not sure which one to get, you can try the Face Cream Sampler’s Kit to narrow down the right choice for your skin.

Whichever product you choose, I assure that your skin will thank you for it. These products are organic with zero chemicals, they’re handmade, they smell absolutely irresistible! What else could you possibly ask for?! Oh, and most importantly, compared  to other beauty brands, Greenridge Organics is pretty affordable. You are officially out of excuses when it comes to not placing an order. Do it! This is a no regrets investment your skin will be sure to return.

Did any of you ever own a pair of leather slip-ons that you were required to wear to school at the demand of a dreadful dress code? Well, I did and let me tell you… I hated them. But times have changed (in a matter of speaking): The 90s are back and those slip-ons for which I harbored so much disdain have morphed into something magnificent, proving themselves to be one of the must-have items for fall. I suppose it’s time to dig deep into those boxes in the basement, because slippers are coming back strong.

I’m sure you’ve noticed that cool, crisp weather is officially upon us. I was pretty bummed to say goodbye to my summer sandals and Toms but recently, I’ve been spotting lovely ladies like Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo sporting slipper-inspired loafers which appear to be just as comfortable as my trusty Toms. Comfort aside, these are also quite elegant and can undoubtedly dress up any evening outfit; and, unlike those 5” heels (respect, respect), these will not leave you with bulging blisters by night’s end. I have actually seen several celebs wearing these to red carpet events in place of plats or heels and they look absolutely adorable.

There is also a wide variety of slip-ons from which to choose. You’ve got your fur variety compliments of Aldo, shiny, patent ones by Steve Madden, classic velvet choices at Del Toro—the choice is yours! Whichever pair you ultimately buy, feel good knowing that you will be looking mighty fine and remaining mighty comfortable at the same time. Trust me… I’ve come to terms with my schoolgirl days and already taken pleasure in snapping up two pairs!

If you know me personally or if you’ve read any of my posts on VG, it’s no secret that I am a proud Turkish Philadelphian with a great love for fashion and for green living. So it should be no surprise that I’m beside myself in (over)excitement, as today is the day I get to introduce to you all a very special brand called Cuval.

Cuval (chu·val) means ‘sack’ in Turkish and the label designs just that: bags and accessories which are all handmade in Istanbul by Turkish craftsmen using mostly milled fabrics and materials derived from 100% natural leather remnants.

Originally hailing from Istanbul, Cuval designer Ayse Ozgunes, a Drexel University graduate, seeks to establish her brand as an eco-conscious one, combining her Turkish roots with Philly’s burgeoning fashion scene. Ozgunes’s main goal in creating Cuval was to raise eco-awareness while simultaneously churning out fabulous bags in the process; there is no doubt in my mind that she has succeeded. Ozgunes chooses only remnant materials to construct her bags, and, in this way, stays on the good side of the gods by making use of what would otherwise be waste while continuing to build her budding brand, which is mostly inspired by a 21st century mega-mix of trend, art, music, and pop culture.

I am, admittedly, pretty much in love with every single piece of the Cuval collection but I suppose if I had to narrow it down to just one favorite, it would be the leather shoulder bag bearing a red pattern. If you too see a bag here that you’d like to make your very own, they are available for purchase at Vagabond boutique in Philadelphia or at eco-retailer Barret & Strater in New York City. And hey, if you ever happen to be strolling through Istanbul or Megura (Japan), they are also available for purchase at a handful of select organic fashion boutiques. However, if you simply can’t wait because you ‘WANT IT NOW,’ you can point, click, and shop online directly on Cuval’s website. Psst! A little secret from a Turkish insider: These pieces are all priced in Turkish liras, so they’re even less expensive than they appear. CHA-CHING!

Now, are you crushin’ on Cuval as much as we are? Well, here’s your chance to snag your very own slice of Turkish delight… for FREE. Simply leave a comment below (*be sure to fill in your email address*) telling us which Cuval bag is your favorite and ‘like’ us on Facebook to win one of Ozgunes’s beautiful Belt Bags, which will be shipped right to your front door. BETTER STILL: Follow us on Twitter (note in your comment!) and receive an EXTRA entry to win! Contestants will have until 11:59pm on Friday, October 28, 2011 to enter. The winner will be notified on Monday, October 31, 2011. Good luck, everyone!

If you’re anywhere near as overwhelmed as I am when it comes to what to do and where to make that cameo at Fashion’s Night Out in NYC (that’s today, my friends!), you’ll want to listen in closely. I did a bit of sleuthing to provide you with the must-attend events of FNO for you and your fashion posse. Psst: Please keep in mind that most of these events will kick off around 6:00pm and will come to a close around 10:00pm, so plan tightly.

1. Barneys is offering 10% OFF all sales at their Madison Avenue flagship store. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Daphne Guinness, Alexander Wang, the designers of Proenza Schouler, Rodarte and Rag & Bone are just some of the celebrity figures you can expect to be in attendance. 660 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10065 / 212-826-8900.

2. Manolo Blahnik will also be welcoming a very special guest, the one and only Sarah Jessica Parker, who will be ready and waiting to talk shop at MB’s 54th Street location from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. And as if SJP weren’t enough to get you there, MB has also commandeered its very own milkshake truck, which will be navigating NYC’s streets all night, providing tasty treats for all you weary high-heeled party girls. A portion of all proceeds made will go to The Fund for Public Schools. 31 West 54th Street (between 5th Avenue & Avenue of the Americas), New York, NY 10019 / 212-582-3007.

3. Victoria’s Secret Angels Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Erin Heatherton and Lily Aldridge will be hanging out and packing in the gorg at VS’s Soho location, taking photos with customers and fans from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Fair warning: This event was insanely packed last year; see for yourself here. Proceed with caution. 591-593 Broadway New York, NY NY10012 / 212-219-3643.

4. Bergdorf Goodman will usher in FNO with a live burlesque show, tarot card readings, designer dogs galore, live music by a number of distinguished artists, a ‘Wheel of Fashion’ game, and live appearances made by Jason Wu and Oscar de la Renta (um, we want to go to there). 754 5th Avenue (at 58th Street), New York, NY 10001 / 212-753-7300.

5. Alice + Olivia designer Stacey Bendet will be hosting a ‘Top Model’ contest. The winner will be given a shot to walk in A+O’s Spring 2011 fashion show scheduled for September 14th. 80 West 40th Street, New York, NY 10018 / 212-840-1155.

6. Dolce & Gabbana will be providing its guests with a complimentary grooming bar, professional makeup artists, and a celebrity photographer to take your own photo while looking your finest–which will then be plastered onto a free/customized D&G t-shirt! A mystery guest performance is also scheduled–your guess is as good as ours! 825 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10065 / 212-249-4100.

7. Lanvin will host a–you guess it–dance competition that will require contestants to mimic the dancing of their models featured in the label’s latest ad campaign. Luxurious prizes for the best shakers and movers of the night are certain. 815 Madison Avenue (at 68th Street), New York, NY 10065 / 646-439-0380.

Like many, I was really bummed to find out that Mad Men‘s fifth season has been delayed until 2012, but luckily, Banana Republic has helped ease the Don Draper withdrawal by releasing a stunning little collection inspired by my favorite series…

The show’s remarkable costume designer, Janie Bryant, collaborated with the retailer to create a 1960s-inspired 65-piece collection consisting of both clothing and accessories for women and men. The line hit stores a couple of weeks ago and is also available online.

Hello, gentlemen. We need to talk about something. Remember that fantasy you once had about stealing your girlfriend’s Spanx and going extra svelte for the night? No? Ok, ever dreamed of donning your very own Spanx, in the privacy of your own home–but designed for men? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, your pleas for undergarment gender equality have been answered. Yup, Spanx has recently come out with a body-shaping undergarment for dudes, which we like to call manx, and—hold onto your hats—there are three, count them, three, different kinds: the Tank ($55), the Crew-Neck ($58), and the V-Neck ($58)—all in your choice of either black or white. Spanx claims that these babies will comfortably firm the chest, flatten the stomach, improve posture, and eliminate bulk under clothes. Man boobs be gone!

The whole men’s line was actually shown at New York Fashion Week last year and, unsurprisingly, got everyone to talking. Founder of Spanx, Sara Blakely, adds:

The men in my life (and in Hollywood) have been asking me to make Spanx for men for years, so I was inspired to create comfortable and powerful undershirts that provide instant gratification without gimmicks. It’s your favorite t-shirt without your least favorite part… love handles.

Gals, if your man’s moobs need some taming, you can snag him a pair of these online at, or you can also find them at Neiman Marcus stores. But, if you ask me, I’m not sure if I’d want my boyfriend to… go there. I’d actually rather have that beer belly hanging out. However, I am pretty happy that, now, men will come to realize the pain and ridiculousness that chicks go through just to look good. Can we get an amen?

The Valentino Fall/Winter 2011-2012 Haute Couture Collection was unveiled at L’hôtel Salomon de Rothschild for Paris Fashion Week last week, and I think it may just may be my favorite fall/winter couture collection of the season…

Since I’ve always been more disposed to fashion that’s more masculine than feminine in feel, this was a bit of a departure for me, but Valentino’s angelic collection already has me giving serious reconsideration to my look this fall. For the first time this year, my eyes lit up and lingered upon every model who walked in this show–every one of them seemed to have such an elegantly beautiful lightness about them that left me completely entranced…

The graceful but simple cuts, generously embellished by laces, luxurious silks, embroidered sheers, and chiffon ruffles, coupled with subdued metallic palettes and swept-back hair, all came together in perfect unison. And after a bright and hue-heavy summer, I think we can all agree that Valentino’s silver-golden vision is the breath of fresh air we envisioned for autumn, only better.
