TRENDING: STAR-STRUCK SEPARATES INSPIRED BY DOLCE & GABBANA

If you haven’t noticed by now, star prints have kind of been everywhere lately. Thanks to Dolce & Gabbana’s Autumn/Winter 2011-12 fashion show, which was littered with the far-out print, stars have crept their way onto a multitude of pieces and are hanging on tight for the ride.

Here are a couple of tips to keep in mind when shopping for your new stellar separates:

Avoid, at all costs, resembling anything that looks like the American flag. Refrain from mixing and matching this print with superfluous (or striped) patterns or anything ‘pussybowed’—this can come off looking overly costume-like or as if you tried to spin some sort of modern day Betsy Ross look gone all sorts of wrong. Let your stars shine brightly on their own and pair your items with clean, solid-colored pieces that will complement your bold print, not compete with it.

It’s generally a good idea to refrain from wearing clothing that is a bit too tight, but this is especially true if you are considering wearing ANY sort of pattern, as patterns tend to easily distort on ill-fitted articles of clothing. Also, remember that any figure can appear overwhelmed by a busy print if an excess amount of fabric is ‘engulfing’ your body. It’s always a good idea to keep an open mind to tailoring; if a dress is too long for your frame, you may inadvertently make yourself appear shorter by leaving it as it is. Taking the hemline of a dress up, even if it’s only an inch or two, can make you look taller and leaner. The best advice we have for you? Just keep it classic and simple.

Wanna give this look a spin, without breaking the bank, with a hot-off-the-runway D&G number? Here are some of my favorites to get you started; just promise you won’t wear them all at once!
