Fashion and design nerds, we have yet another reason for you to embrace what the young people are calling Tumblr… It’s Of a Kind, the first ever web shop ever to be launched on the immensely popular blogging platform.
Opening this past November, Of a Kind caught our eye not just for the extremely personal shopping experience it’s crafted for its customers, but for its discerning tastes and keen knack for sniffing out some of the most unique emerging designers in retail fashion today.
Being the style maven that we suspect you are, you may already be acquainted with labels like Collina Strada, Lizzie Fortunato Jewels, Mary Meyer, Brook&lyn, and Sophie Monet to name a few, all of which have been previously featured on the site. However, even the most knowledgeable of fashionistas (I’m still not so sure I like that word) may be surprised to discover a number of exceptional (yet seemingly ‘obscure’) labels within the Of a Kind confines to pledge an allegiance to quicker than you can mouth the words credit card security code.
Each week, a limited edition item from a new designer is featured in the shop and is accompanied by a short bio and headshot. Some of these stories even delve into details of how each designer got their upstart in the industry and the path that led them to living the dream–being able to do what they love for a living.
The model of this site in my mind, is somewhat akin to that of NOT JUST A LABEL—another rich resource for fashion-forward, high-end finds from a superb crop of independent designers of the avant-garde breed. (Also another must-bookmark.) So, if you love NJAL, you’ll definitely love Of a Kind which is, thankfully, a bit more in reach for the average online shopper.
Well, ’nuff of me talking–time for you to check out the site, which I think you’ll really dig. And Of a Kind, if you’re reading this, I have a few choice suggestions for some talented designers that would make for a perfect fit on your site:
