SEXY SWEATERS: KEEPIN’ IT TIGHT!

Sweaters can be sexy. Oh yes they can. And not necessarily by showing a lot (or any!) skin. Have a little faith…

I have this reoccurring image in my head (one that Mad Men probably reinforces on a weekly basis), an image of endless rows of bombshell secretaries with Brigitte Bardot bumps. Typing. All of them donning tight, bright sweaters. Call it sexist, call it unoriginal, call it whatever you want, but that’s what I think of when I think of sexy sweaters.

That being said, you can imagine my delight in the current resurgence of… this sort of retro feline chic. If you get a chance, check out the amazing Vogue spread entitled Sweater Girl, featuring the beyond-gorgeous Lara Stone—it’s pretty much as good as “feminine beautiful” gets. I love this look paired with some sort of clean statement jewelry (necklace or earrings). How lovely.

The other great thing about this style is that it’s so easily attainable, from Macy’s to Magaschoni. Just make sure your final pick is form-fitting as hell. There’s something so sexy about a short-sleeved sweater too. Also, don’t be afraid to gently tuck in your sweater so it appears as short as possible. The less material, the better. In general, I’d recommend going for a crewneck (and even better: one with a mini pocket!) but you can also button up a cardigan to attain the same effect. A svelte turtleneck also works. However you want to work it. Just keep it tight.

  1. Love this, Jean!! Reminds me of the sweater girls of the 40’s and 50’s, and sweater puppets *tee*, and lovely pin-ups like this: http://www.illustrationsartantiques.com/SweaterGirl_18x14.jpg
